Italian Hot Chocolate
Rich, chocolatey sweetness, filling enough to be a dessert on its own!
All right. I know hot chocolate is supposed to be for cold weather… but in our house, we drink it year-round. This recipe is just that good!
Whether you’ve been out in the snow and you need a warmer-upper or you’ve got a hankering for something rich and sweet, a cup of this Italian-style hot chocolate will get you feeling plenty toasty!
(Hint: Italian hot chocolate is super thick, almost as thick as chocolate sauce! Delizioso!)
Ingredients:
3 ounces good quality chocolate, chopped
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
1-2 teaspoons sugar or sweetener
Dash of salt
1 cup milk of choice
1/4 cup milk + 1 teaspoon corn or potato starch
Instructions:
In a small bowl combine ¼ cup milk and cornstarch. Whisk until smooth and set aside.
In a small/medium pot, heat 1 cup milk until boiling. Reduce heat to almost low, start whisking and add the milk/cornstarch mixture.
Add the cocoa mixture slowly while continually whisking until smooth.
Add the chopped chocolate and whisk for approximately three minutes.
Pour into mugs. Top with some whipped cream and chocolate shavings if desired. Serve immediately.
Makes enough for two mugs of pure chocolate bliss.
